National Flag Foundation does not recommend painting the flag on a surface on which people are going to walk, drive, engage in activities or otherwise touch.  We also discourage writing names or other markings on the flag since this is considered to be disrespectful.  The U.S. Flag should never touch the ground -- even when painted.
