National Flag Foundation recommends that all Americans fly their United States Flags to show their patriotism and belief in the ideals of our great nation. The Flag should be flown at the top of the pole (full staff) until and unless the President of the United States or the Governor of your State decrees that it should be flown at half-staff.
National Flag Foundation will post half-staffing announcements made by the President on this site in News and Notes under the title Half-staffing Information.
The flag should especially be flown on the following days: New Year's Day, January 1 Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Birthday, 3rd Monday in January Inauguration Day, January 20 Lincoln's Birthday, February 12 Washington's Birthday, 3rd Monday in February Easter Sunday, (variable) Mother's Day, 2nd Sunday in May Peace Officers Memorial Day, May 15 (half-staff) Armed Forces Day, 3rd Saturday in May Memorial Day, last Monday in May (half-staff until noon) Flag Day, June 14 Father's Day, 3rd Sunday in June Independence Day, July 4 Labor Day, 1st Monday in September Patriot Day, September 11 (half-staff) Constitution Day, September 17 Gold Star Mother's Day, Last Sunday in September Columbus Day, 2nd Monday in October Navy Day, October 27 Election Day, 1st Tuesday in November Veterans Day, November 11 Thanksgiving Day, 4th Thursday in November Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, December 7 (half-staff) Christmas Day, December 25 State Birthdays and Holidays and other days that may be proclaimed by the President of the U.S or the Governor of your State. |
